Public Safety Committee approves prior minutes, addresses E-Moto ordinance concerns.

City Council - Public Safety Committee · Meeting of May 5, 2026

EASTHAMPTON — Public Safety Committee approves minutes and discusses E-Moto ordinance revisions. Police Chief Alexander told the panel that a failed 2 1/2 override could force the layoff of two to three of the department's approximately 30 officers, severely hampering operations. Public comment from Alex Barron, Sean Abbott, and Alexis Abbott urged the committee to align E-Moto regulations with Ride Safe Act recommendations.

After discussion of enforcement gaps — Chief Alexander noted the Environmental Police handle E-Moto registration — the committee voted to narrow the ordinance to Class 3 E-Motos only and replace "E-Bike" terminology with "E-Moto" throughout the language.
