City Council - Public Safety Committee · Meeting of February 3, 2026

EASTHAMPTON — The Easthampton City Council Public Safety Committee unanimously approved amended prior meeting minutes and reviewed departmental operations. Police Chief Chad Alexander reported the department is restoring its staff complement to 30 members after retirements and a military deployment, while addressing sidewalk-clearing enforcement and clarifying that the Easthampton Police Department has no working relationship with ICE and maintains a duty to intervene should federal immigration agents violate law within the city. The committee agreed to audit Articles 1-4 of the city's Traffic Rules and Orders before the next meeting, and DPW Director Greg Nuttleman committed to reviewing a sidewalk flooding concern on West Street in spring.
