Pond Committee Questions Retaining Wall, Seeks Engineering Review

Nashawannuck Pond Committee · Meeting of September 9, 2026

EASTHAMPTON — Nashawannuck Pond Committee questions completed shoreline stabilization retaining wall. Chair Paul Nowak said the committee would consult with engineering firm GZA, which along with Dan Mason and John Mason raised concerns that the wall, completed July 22, was not built to specification and shows erosion. The committee approved $3,104 in remaining GZA planning costs and $4,173.34 from a Community Preservation Act grant for shoreline work.

The committee halted barley straw testing after two negative results and referred the matter to the Board of Health for a decision on shutting down the program.
