Finance Committee recommends three property tax exemption options

City Council - Finance Committee · Meeting of April 29, 2026

Easthampton Finance Committee unanimously backs three new property tax exemptions for seniors and veterans. The City Council Finance Committee recommended annual cost-of-living adjustments for seniors 65 and older with less than $78,000 in assets and for veterans with disabilities, plus an exception allowing homes in trusts to retain veteran exemption eligibility. The committee also unanimously approved $34,907.49 in supplemental appropriations: $29,907.49 for computer systems equipment and $5,000 for a part-time Tax Collector position to handle a collections backlog, with a public hearing May 6.

Three exemptions require full City Council adoption.
