Easthampton's FY27 school budget hinges on override vote

City Council - Finance Committee · Meeting of May 27, 2026

Easthampton Finance Committee reviews FY27 budget scenarios with stark education differences. The scenario without an override calls for elimination of 24 full-time education positions, including all school librarians, which would trigger loss of New England Association of Schools and Colleges accreditation, while the override scenario cuts six positions. The committee unanimously approved a 16,000 dollar supplemental appropriation for the June 9 special city election.

Both budget scenarios project a fixed 2.5 percent levy increase; the non-override version would require drawing 2.5 million dollars from the city's stabilization account.
