School Committee approves June 11 meeting date, election day school closure
School Committee · Meeting of April 28, 2026
Easthampton School Committee backs election-day high school closure. The committee unanimously moved its June 9 meeting to June 11 and voted to close Easthampton High School on June 9 to provide space for a Proposition 2½ override vote, extending the academic year to June 23 for EHS students. Superintendent Michelle Balch presented two FY2027 budget scenarios: potential $500,000 in reductions if the override passes, or $2,750,000 in cuts including possible non-renewals and reductions in force if it fails.
The committee will review both scenarios at May 12 and May 26 meetings, with final budget approval on June 11. Committee members also unanimously appointed Bonnie Atkins to the TNGDI Committee and Sam Hunter as representative to the Easthampton Family Center Community Council.
