School Committee Approves $922,603 Budget Cut Despite Override
School Committee · Meeting of June 16, 2026
Easthampton schools approve $922,603 budget cuts post-override. The School Committee approved a post-override budget amendment requiring $922,603.50 in reductions—$713,509.50 from personnel and $209,094 from other areas—affecting approximately five to six positions. Superintendent Michelle Balch said the override passage allows the district to retain many staff members who would have been laid off and maintain all sports and afterschool clubs.
The committee also accepted $2,500 from a technology recycling event and $44,307.26 in donations for the "We the People" program, and unanimously approved a second one-year food service contract renewal with Chartwells for FY27.
