School Committee · Meeting of May 26, 2026
EASTHAMPTON — School Committee discusses budget scenarios tied to Proposition 2.5 override election. Superintendent Michelle Balch presented two plans: if the override passes on June 9, the district would cut $922,603 from its $24,969,268 initial FY27 proposal, reducing the appropriation to $24,046,664.66 and eliminating or reducing five positions. If the override fails, cuts would reach $2,771,418, reducing the appropriation to $22,197,850.16 and eliminating or reducing 35 positions while eliminating all middle and high school athletics funding.
The Committee also voted unanimously to accept a $500 donation from Jamie and Matthew Brelsford for preschool supplies. The Committee heard public comment from 26 speakers during the initial period and 7 during a reopened session.
