School Committee approves deficit remedy, awards grant funding

Easthampton schools manage fiscal year 2026 deficit with strategic fund transfers. The School Committee voted 5-0-1 to use $137,560 from School Choice funds to address the $577,616.16 shortfall, with remaining gaps covered by Circuit Breaker and other revolving accounts. The committee unanimously accepted an $80,000 Genocide Education Grant from the state to support curriculum development with Facing History and Ourselves and Collaborative for Educational Services.
Superintendent Michelle Balch completed her first-year evaluation evidence, including launching ParentSquare as the district's unified communication platform and establishing monthly data review cycles with school leaders.
