EDIC member announces resignation, raises questions about commission's role

EASTHAMPTON — Economic Development Commission member Cassie Eckhof announced her resignation at the board's July 21 meeting, prompting members to question the commission's purpose and future direction. Thomas Brown suggested seeking Mayor input on EDIC's vision, while Dave DelVecchio questioned whether the state-created committee has become a "solution looking for a problem." Planning Director Allyson Manuel reported that Dillon Maxfield is departing the department and that the town remains uncertain whether his position will be filled. The Park Street project, intended entirely as affordable housing, has been submitted to the Community Preservation Act committee but has not yet filed permitting applications, Manuel said.
