School Committee advances grants, reorganizes central office leadership

School Committee · Meeting of April 14, 2026

Easthampton School Committee approves $36,904 in combined state and federal grants for middle school and early childhood programs. The committee voted unanimously to accept a $16,904 state grant for the Middle School Exploration Policy and MyCAP program, which will create a six-through-twelve career and technical education scope and sequence, and a $20,000 federal grant for the Preschool Itinerant Team Initiative to support early intervention services for children with disabilities in community settings. Superintendent Michelle Balch also secured Committee approval to elevate Julie Anne Levin, who has served in the district since 2016, to Assistant Superintendent, a move reflecting her expanded leadership role and the district's commitment to supporting schools during a strategic middle school transformation focused on student engagement and real-world learning.
