Ordinance committee advances short-term rental proposal toward June implementation

City Council - Ordinance Committee · Meeting of January 14, 2026

EASTHAMPTON — The City Council Ordinance Committee worked through short-term rental ordinance details, tentatively setting June 1 as the effective date. Building Commissioner David Gardner questioned whether allowing short-term rentals as a principal use in residential zones conflicts with municipal zoning classifications, though the committee deferred that decision. The proposed ordinance caps rentals at 50 properties and limits operations to 250 days per year.

The committee agreed to a 10-business-day window for property owners to submit compliance documentation and a 48-hour notice period for inspections. Health Department staff estimated at least 60 days to complete inspections for all properties.
