Committee advances revised short-term rental ordinances to full council

City Council - Ordinance Committee · Meeting of March 12, 2026

Easthampton ordinance panel advances short-term rental rules to full council. The committee unanimously recommended two ordinances limiting short-term rentals to 50 units city-wide, capping non-owner-occupied rentals at 250 days per year, and requiring mandatory joint inspections and Board of Health registration. Amendments responding to solicitor feedback replaced a corporate-ownership ban with an attestation requirement and allow independent lease negotiations.

The ordinance prohibits excessive noise between 10 PM and 8 AM and establishes a local appeals process through the Board of Health. Public commenters from STR operators questioned the 250-day cap as redundant and objected to noise restrictions as discriminatory absent a city-wide ordinance.
