Board of Health to enforce abatement at Lovefield after appeal denied

Board of Health · Meeting of April 8, 2026

EASTHAMPTON — Board of Health prepares short-term rental permitting role amid budget and staffing constraints. Director of Public Health Ryan Griffin reported the board will handle permitting and inspection duties for approximately 35 short-term rentals ahead of a June 1 deadline. Public Health Inspector Kelsey LeClair reported the department has completed 300 inspections in 2026, nearly double last year's total.

The city faces a $5 million to $7 million budget deficit for fiscal 2027, making it unlikely that additional health department staff will be hired without a municipal override. The city will proceed with cleanup and abatement of violations at 21 Lovefield beginning April 10th after the owner's appeal was denied.
