Board approves 2026 exemptions; discusses future changes

EASTHAMPTON — Assessors approve fiscal 2026 exemptions, discuss future changes. The Easthampton Board of Assessors unanimously approved motor vehicle abatements totaling $2,124.99 and motor vehicle commitments for 2025-7 ($11,307.89) and 2026-1 ($1,710,168.70). The board approved fiscal 2026 exemptions for seniors, surviving spouses, veterans, the blind, and community preservation acts totaling $54,707.83 in real estate exemptions and $1,362.15 in community preservation act relief, along with senior tax work-off benefits of $19,034.52 in real estate and $571.05 in community preservation relief.

The board recommended increasing veterans' exemptions by 10 percent annually for fiscal years 2027 and 2028 rather than the allowable doubling, at an estimated savings of $86,800.
