Board of Assessors approves abatements, directs veterans exemption

EASTHAMPTON — Board of Assessors directs Local Option Veterans Exemption recommendation to Easthampton City Council. The board unanimously approved motor vehicle abatements and excise commitment totaling $261,454, along with fiscal year 2026 exemptions and abatements totaling $23,973.25. Principal Assessor Martha Leamy will recommend the 22G exemption following testimony from Amelia Enright, a veterans surviving spouse, and Tom Geryt, the Veterans Agent.

It provides a $400 annual property tax exemption for qualifying real estate owned by a fiduciary for a person's benefit.
