Board of Assessors approves exemptions, recommends cost-of-living adjustments

EASTHAMPTON — Board of Assessors recommends senior exemption cost-of-living adjustments for fiscal 2027. The three-member board, chaired by Daniel H. Zdonek, Jr., voted unanimously to recommend that the City Council implement adjustments to the Hero's Act and Senior/Surviving Spouse Exemption for Fiscal Year 2027, pending budget approval.
In routine business, the board also approved motor vehicle abatements totaling $1,593.59 and Fiscal Year 2026 exemptions totaling $10,506. Principal Assessor Martha Leamy clarified that the City Council serves as her direct supervisor, with Mayor Salem Derby overseeing day-to-day operations.
