Rent Study Committee advances home rule petition timeline

Rent Study Committee · Meeting of July 7, 2026

Easthampton Rent Study Committee targets September for home rule petition on rent stabilization. Chair Kiam Jamrog-McQuaid outlined a timeline to present the petition to City Council in September, with a goal of securing a council vote by December. The committee reviewed draft language from Boston and Somerville, with members assigned to complete jurisdiction-specific parameters before an additional July 27 meeting.

A public feedback survey, developed by Chair Jamrog-McQuaid and member Donna Cuipylo, will run through August 14 and ask respondents about rent increase caps, property exemptions, and implementation approaches.
