EASTHAMPTON — School Committee Finance Subcommittee reviews FY'27 budget framework. Director of Business Services Julia Saari-Franks presented initial highlights to Subcommittee Chair Megan Harvey, members Laura Scott and Bonnie Atkins, Superintendent Michelle Balch, and Mayor Salem Derby, identifying personnel and fixed contracted expenses as dominant cost drivers. The subcommittee requested further itemization of the overall budget increase by personnel, contractual, and additional costs.
Transportation uncertainty emerged after the Van Pool contract expired and requires renegotiation, while the Durham Bus Company contract can extend at a negotiated 3 percent increase. The subcommittee requested future presentations organized by cost center rather than building.
