Council on Aging preserves hours after override passes
Council on Aging · Meeting of June 16, 2026
Easthampton Council on Aging avoids budget cuts after override vote passes. Chair Cathie Schweitzer reported that the Finance Committee recommended preserving the fiscal 2027 budget. Since the Proposition 2.5 override vote passed, the agency will maintain Monday through Friday operating hours from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and avoid staff hour reductions.
Salaries are frozen for the director, office aid, and van drivers; other staff will receive negotiated increases. The director will allocate $38,000 of the state formula grant for salaries, compared to $56,000 if the override had failed. The City Council will vote on the fiscal 2027 budget on June 24.
