Commission on Disability pursues business accessibility ordinance

Easthampton Disability Commission welcomes new member, advances initiatives. Chair Angelique Baker called the July 9 meeting to order with new member Stephen Light introducing himself and describing his interest in political engagement. The commission plans to draft an ordinance requiring Easthampton businesses to identify disability accommodations and designate accessibility contacts, coordinating with the Greater Easthampton Chamber of Commerce and Massachusetts LGBT Chamber of Commerce on the measure.
Leslie Tane will draft a letter to the City Council requesting allocation of disability parking fines under Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 40, Section 22G, with funds to be held in a separate account and used solely to benefit persons with disabilities.
