BEES Committee votes to remove member, advances shade tree ordinance

BEES Committee · Meeting of July 23, 2026

Easthampton BEES Committee removes Chicoine, advances shade tree ordinance. The committee voted unanimously on July 23 to remove member Elodie Chicoine, who had not attended meetings or communicated since April 2024. Chair Sean Abbot recommended consulting city engineering and planning staff before drafting a shade tree ordinance, responding to public resident Em Gamber's request backed by a 2025 Smith College heat risk assessment.

The assessment found downtown and low-income areas had the lowest tree density. The committee also plans to host public events at the Easthampton Library to present draft priorities and recruit new members.
